Alimony Lawyer

Spousal Support | Availability | Amount | Duration

One of the most contentious areas of dispute during a divorce centers on the payment of alimony or spousal support. If you have sacrificed your career to support your spouse, and have taken yourself out of the job market, you may want compensation to maintain your lifestyle until you have developed the skills to become self-sufficient. Conversely, when you have been the sole breadwinner in the family, and your marriage has ended, you don’t want to continue to carry the burden of providing financially for your former spouse. I can help.

At the offices of attorney Daniel K. Newman, I bring many years of practice experience to men and women in Camden County, Burlington County, Gloucester County, Salem County and Atlantic County, Voorhees, Cherry Hill and the greater Philadelphia area. Because I have spent more than 30 years handling divorce and family law disputes, I have a thorough knowledge of the laws and procedures.

My Spousal Support/Alimony Practice

Alimony is not automatically granted in New Jersey, but may be ordered at the discretion of the judge. Among the factors the judge will consider when evaluating a request for spousal support are:

  • Actual need and ability of the supporting spouse to pay
  • Length of the marriage
  • Age, physical and emotional health of each spouse
  • The couple’s standard of living during the marriage
  • Earning capacity, level of education and job prospects

When you retain us to help you resolve an alimony dispute, I will carefully review the facts and circumstances of your case, evaluating and preserving all relevant evidence. I will help you determine whether alimony is appropriate and, if so, how much should be paid and for how long.
